I intended to take a picture of the view of the Mediterranean outside the window when I took this shot. I found out later that the Night Shot feature was turned on in my camera, so I ended up with this photo instead. It was disappointing, but I think my fluke turned out really well regardless. :-D Here's how it looks like before I converted it to black and white:

The 16th-century Milanese artist, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, spent most of his career in Vienna and Prague. It was there that Arcimboldo first imagined his trademark composite images. Using fruits, vegetables, and other objects, the artist created portraits, usually of fictional subjects. These whimsical paintings became a popular amusement at the Bohemian court, and this method of composing a face of vegetables and other objects spread throughout Europe. This work and its pendant, Summer, are copies after the original paintings by Arcimboldo.

Guard Rooms

St. Augustine was a garrison town or presidio, and no one lived inside the Castillo. The soldiers lived in town with their families and came to the fort to stand a rotating guard duty (usually 24 hours). At such times, they slept and prepared their meals in these rooms. The large fireplaces offered warmth on chilly days and provided an area for cooking. The platforms attached to the walls served as beds for the soldiers.

One of the things I love about Florida is the worse weather we can expect in the winter is rain. Going out on one-day trips is still a very inviting option against the boredom and lethargy brought about by cold, overcast weekends. My friend and I drove the four-hour trip to St. Augustine from St. Pete this past weekend and had a wonderful time roaming the historic city.

Watery Wednesday #2 - Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle

It's been really hot and humid in St. Pete today. I wasn't in the mood for the beach, so I daydreamed for a pool instead—the Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle in California, in particular. Doesn't it make you want to jump in?

Take a virtual tour of Hearst Castle and see more gorgeous shots of the pool. Look for Neptune Pool on the bottom right corner of the map. You can also view different areas of the castle by clicking on the dots on the map. There's also a virtual tour of the visitor center. Enjoy!

I had a grand time touring the castle. There were five tours available to visitors, but I only went to the first one. Missing out on the other tours makes for a good reason to go back. ;)

Window Views #1 - Too Early at the Casino

Welcome to my first Window Views post!

Taken last year on the second floor of hotel Atlantis in Reno, Nevada. The place was pretty empty, which was nice. :D My sister and I dropped by the hotel for a look-around early in the morning, when most guests are either still in bed or somewhere else. Great timing. :D I don't play in casinos, but I enjoy looking at the decorations.
